wow , thanks for bring the walk back
need to check if we can get others to register for us
cosmy family have travelling plans on Oct 08 and i really dun want to miss it.
so can i get my friend, who is also going with family to register together? is there any forms need to be pre-signed. and will it make available online?
    thanks

    ————–

    Dear Nur,

    Thanks for your email!

You can download the registration form at http://bigwalkonwater.wordpress.com/registration/registration-form/

Fill it in and get your friend to bring it down to the registration booth.

You don’t have to be personally present to register. As long as you have filled in and signed the form, your friend can bring it down to the booth and register for you.

Each Big Walker must fill in the registration form + present 1 TNP masthead.

So if your friend is helping your family of 4 sign up, she will need to bring down 4 registration forms + 4 TNP mastheads.

Click here for the registration booth schedule:

Thanks for your support and see you at The Big Walk!

K wrote to us in an e-mail to tnpbigwalk@sph.com.sg

    Hi there,

Could I check if it is possible to register as a company?

What is the number of participants I am allowed to register?

    Thanks

    —————

    Dear K,

    Thanks for your email!

This year’s Big Walk is labelled as a family event, so we are not accepting “company registrations” per se.

However, we welcome you and your colleagues to join us at the Big Walk together!

You can sign up at our registration booths – Click here for the schedule of when and where:
    http://bigwalkonwater.wordpress.com/registration/registration-booth-schedule/

There, each person will be asked to fill in a registration form, and submit a cut-out of The New Paper masthead, to register.

If you would like to help all your colleagues sign up, download the registration form here:
    http://bigwalkonwater.wordpress.com/registration/registration-form/

This way you can just bring all the completed forms to the booth.

If you are helping 10 colleagues sign up, remember to bring 10 forms and 10 mastheads! There is no limit to the number of people you can help sign up.

Thanks for your support, and see you at the Big Walk!

    Best regards,

    c. Cut out of the Masthead of the Paper : Should one cut out be enough for registering the whole family.
Pls advise on an urgent basis. As we do not want to miss out this wonderful experience

    ——-

    Dear Sundeep,

    Thanks for your email!

    To answer your questions,

    a. Registration starts 4 Oct (Saturday) and ends 26 Oct (Sunday).

It will be on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at selected FairPrice outlets, and Suntec City Mall.

However, if we reach 20,000 walkers before 26 Oct, we will end registration early. So register early to avoid disappointment!

    b. Click here for the full schedule of when and where to register:
    http://bigwalkonwater.wordpress.com/registration/registration-booth-schedule/

    c. No… You need 1 masthead per person. So if you have a family of 5, that’s 5 mastheads.

If you read The New Paper regularly, you will be able to gather 7 mastheads in 1 week. This is our way of saying thank you to our readers!

At the registration booth, we will also be asking each participant to fill in a registration form.

If you would like to help your family members or friends register, you can download the form from here: http://bigwalkonwater.wordpress.com/registration/registration-form/ , fill it in and bring the completed form to the booth.

Thanks for your support, and see you at the Big Walk!

    Dear Newpaper,

The competitive racewalk category has always been an integral part of the entire big walk. it adds colours and would certainly bring a whole dimension to your event. There are alot of competitive walkers out there (including overseas participants) who always look forward to the competition element offered by TNP big walk.

i hope that the competitive element can be included in the event.

    —————

    Dass wrote:

why is there no competitive walk–as a avid race waker i am dissapointed—-the new paper walk was a premier race walk in this region untill it stopped please reinstate the competitive section

    ————–

    Dear Edmund and Dass,

We did think very hard about whether or not to include the competitive element into The Big Walk this year. We do agree that it does add a additional dimension and buzz to the event.

However, competitive walkers have traditionally made up only a very small fraction of the tens of thousands of people who join the Big Walk. The majority are families, children, friends, looking for a fun Sunday morning walk.

Also, in the years since the Big Walk started in 1991, dozens of running events have sprung up, catering to those who wish to run competitively.

However, there remains only 1 Big Walk that caters to Walkers of all ages (and even their pets!).

Which is why we decide to focus on what we do best this year.

We hope you understand and that you will continue to support us at this year’s Big Walk!

    Best regards,
The Big Walk 2008 organising team

  8. kHaI .- Says:

just curious since im joining it the first time. what attire should it be?

    ————————

    Dear kHaI:

Most importantly – comfortable running shoes! To ensure happy feet at the end of the 5km walk to the Marina Barrage.

You can wear any attire you feel comfortable in for a 5km walk.

Or, you can even come a fun costume if you would like to take part in our Fancy Dress contest! (Details to be announced mid-Oct – check back at this space for more details then!).

Thanks for your question, and hope to see you at the Big Walk!

    Edmund wrote:

    Dear Newpaper,

Thank you for the prompt response and consideration of including the competitive element.

I agree that competitive walkers are only a fraction of the participating population. However, it is the same for other running events where the majority are ‘fun’ participants who are there for a purpose. In a event, there is always the fun and serious component of it.

Over the years, we have also seen many champions (at National and International Level) who are both participants and graduates of the big walk. In fact, the big walk is comparable to the soccer version of the tiger cup where top local walkers spar with the regional best.

I also agree that there is a increase in the number of running events. However, i would like to seek the understanding of the organising committee that the running and walking are two different disciplines, requiring different skill sets. Together with my friends fromthe racewalking fraternity, we have been hoping for the return of the big walk (with both the fun and competitive elements of it).

Hence, I would like to appeal to the organising committee not to forget the competitive element of the big walk as it has greatly contributed to the sport of racewalking.

    ——

    Dear Edmund and Dass,

Thanks much for your replies. We understand you both feel strongly about the issue – however, it would be difficult for us to add a competitive element a month away from the event.

We will take your comments into consideration in organising the next Big Walk.

  10. Kent Says:

    Hi there!

What is the route for the walk itself? I do not seem to find the route in this web itself.

    Regards
    Kent

    ——–

    Dear Kent,

    Thanks much for your question.

We have not yet announced the route for this year’s Big Walk.

Part of the reason is that we are pacing our articles from now till Nov 2: For this week and next week, we are concentrating on the destination (the Marina Barrage), registration information, and Big Walk contest information (to come).

Once the route has been published in The New Paper, it will also be posted on the website.

Thanks for your support, and hope to see you at the Big Walk!

  11. Michelle Says:

I would like to suggest that the organising committee to re-shuffle the schedule for the registration at the various “authorised” ntuc fairprice outlets:

    1) Reduce the no. of times you set up registration booths at NTUC AMK Hub, and replace by some other NTUC fairprice outlets, especially those in the east/North-east

    2) Every weekend, please have registration booths at each of the North, South, East & West major NTUC outlet, on top of the Suntec booths, since I noticed that you can schedule 4 locations on every Sat & Sun. It will be much fair to all interested participants staying/working in all locations.

    3) If the above 2 suggestions are not “accepted”, then PLEASE bring forward the registration schedule for Tampines & Downtown East, to be fair to people staying/working in the east. At the current schedule, I think registration may close before you guys come to Tampines/Downtown East (based on the experience of fast closing of registration for the recent KPE Walk).

Hope my suggestions are viewed flavourably ;-)

    Thanks & Regards.

    ——–

    Dear Michelle,

Thanks much for your suggestion. We did try to work out a North-South-East-Central distribution for the NTUC FairPrice outlets, based on availability of the branches: Our East branch for the 1st two weekends is at Marine Parade (FairPrice supermarket, 6 Marine Parade Central).

Though we understand this is closer for the Marina Parade/Siglap/Bedok residents than the Tampines/Pasir Ris residents.

But there would be some logistics difficulty involved if we were to change the registration schedule at this juncture.

We are concerned it might confuse people who might have taken note of the original schedule – the online version alone has been viewed more than 1,000 times in the last 5 days, plus the print version in The New Paper which is read by hundreds of thousands of people.

I’ve also checked with the KPE run organisers: The spaces filled up so fast primarily because of online registration. Whereas there is no online registration for the Big Walk – so hopefully our friends in Tampines/Pasir Ris will not miss out!

We will moniter the registration (which opens this weekend) and keep you posted.

But to play it safe, if you happen to be at the Suntec area or Marina Parade area this week, do sign up at the registration booths there!

Thanks for your support in the Big Walk, and hope to see you there!

    ———

    Dear Julia,

First of all, thanks so much for being so considerate! It’s really commendable that you would think of giving back the tag, and opening up 1 more space (given our capacity of 20,000 walkers this year).

Of course, we hope that your brother-in-law will be able to make it back in time for the Big Walk!

If not, it’s really okay for your family to keep the tag. An additional keepsake from The New Paper Big Walk 2008 :)

    Dear Ms Grazing,

Thanks for your e-mail and your good question: We have since included it in our registration FAQ at http://bigwalkonwater.wordpress.com/registration/frequently-asked-questions-registration/

We are accepting mastheads from 25 September 2008 – the day we announced the Big Walk.

As for which part of the front page to cut out, please refer to the image on http://bigwalkonwater.wordpress.com/registration/ . It’s the part of the front page that includes the date, the day of the week, and The New Paper logo.

Congrats and best wishes for reviving the Big Walk event again.

My family and I had been taking part in the Big Event since 1991. I was also at the National Stadium two years ago before the Big Walk was suspended. My family and I had grown up with the Big Walk as a family get-together, outing and Sunday morning exercise. I have taken photos over the years for memory and keepsake.

Keep it up and move forward.

    Thanks!

    ———

    Dear Shirley,

    Thanks much for your email.

The goodie bags will actually be distributed during the Big Walk itself on 2 Nov.

At the registration booth, you will receive a coupon (about A5 size) that will allow you to collect the 2 goodie bags on 2 Nov.

So you don’t have to worry about being overloaded during registration!

Claudia wrote to us at tnpbigwalk@sph.com.sg and asked:

    Hi,

Could you advise the estimated finish time for the above event? Thanks

    ——

    Dear Claudia,

Our event runs from 7.30am to 1pm. But what time each Big Walker finishes is up to the individual.

The participants will be flagged off at 7.30am. The estimated average time of the Walkers to leisurely finish 5km (bearing in mind bottle-necking) is about 1 hour 30 minutes: about 9am.

At the Marina Barrage, you may like to take some time to visit the venue – the bridge, the rooftop garden, the fountains and the exhibits.

Free shuttle buses will send Big Walkers back to Suntec City Mall from 9am to 1pm.

At the Suntec City Mall, there will be a post-walk carnival.

So to answer your question: The event can “finish” as early as 9am for some, but as late as 1pm or beyond for others.

    Hope this helps!

    Best regards,
The Big Walk on Water organising committee

Dear Hong Hee and Mr Goh,

No, there will not be T-shirts for participants this year.

But for this free event, you will get 2 goodie bags, souveniors, and a chance to win thousands of dollars in NTUC FairPrice vouchers in our 3 Big Walk contests (details to be released in the coming weeks).

is the big walk open to kids below 2 yo? if yes, can i bring stroller along? will there be stops along the way where we can prepare milk (i will bring my own hot water!)? Do i need to cut out the TNP header for even a 2 yo?

    Dear Lee,

Yes, the Big Walk is opened to everyone, of all ages!

However, we will not have special stops for the 5km walk (which on average will take about 1.5 hours to complete), so please make arrangements for this.

If you register your child, your family will receive an additional coupon for goodie bags, plus the other Big Walk souvenirs. So why not :)

Can I get my friend to fax in the registration form i.e.he signed on the form and fax it to me..is the faxed signature valid?

    Dear Tony,

No, a faxed signature will not be valid. We would need your friend’s original signature, as this is an indemnity document.

Perhaps you could arrange to meet with your friend, or he could sign up separately?

    To answer your questions:

    - It’s not necessary to register a 2-year-old.
However, if you sign up your child, you will get another set of 2 goodie bags for your family, so why not?
Registration is free, all you need to do is produce a masthead (which is published on The New Paper front page everyday)

What time will the buses be leaving fm Marina to Suntec?

    Regards
    V

    ——

    Dear V,

    Thanks for your email.

Buses will depart continuously from Marina Barrage to Suntec City from 9am to 1pm.

The schedule once you reach the Marina Barrage is free and easy – You could leave at any time you wish, or you could stay and see the exhibits and the Barrage, or picnic on the rooftop green garden overlooking the water and the city.

We will also be holding a drawing contest for children at the Marina Barrage (details to be announced next week), in case your children are interested to take part.

As your child needs to be at Bugis by 1pm, please do note:
    - Since the crowd is large (20,000), do give time allowance for queues for the bus
    - There is a 2nd goodie bag collection point at Suntec City Mall once you alight from the bus, to collect the Suntec Goodie Bag
(the goodie bag you will collect at the Marina Barrage is the NTUC FairPrice one)

  28. Eva Says:

    Hi,

i manage to participate Big Walk each year without fail, can i ask if this year i had realised that i have something on the night before, wat if i arrive late (after 7.30am), will i be barred from the walk or can i join in too?

    Dear Eva,

Please do try to arrive on time as we are walking on roads during the Big Walk. These roads will closed temporarily, specially for the Big Walk.

To minimise traffic disruption, the arrangement is for roads and lanes to re-open as soon as the “last man” passes.

So if you arrive after the last man has passed and the road has already re-opened, you will not be able to join the walk. It’s not that we want to “bar” you, it’s just that the road will not longer be open to pedestrians.

    WY

    Dear WY,

    No worries!

Yes water is provided in the goodie bags — however, the goodie bag collection point is at the end of the walk, at the Marina Barrage.

So if you would like to consume water in the midst of the 5km walk, I would suggest that you bring some water. But definitely there will be water provided at the end point.

We accept all mastheads dated 25 September 2008 Thursday onwards (the day we announced the Big Walk).

So for example, mastheads dated 25 Sept, 29 Sept and 4 Oct will be accepted.

But mastheads dated 24 Sept, 17 Sept, 20 Aug etc will NOT be accepted.

    Hope this answers your question.

    Hi,

Is the walk route convenient for the baby stroller/trolley? any stairs?

    Please advise.

    Thanks and Best regards,
    SC

    —-

    Dear SC,

I’ve checked with our route managers.

    1) There will be a very small number of steps along the route — but they are not staircases, more like one step (1-2m distance) then another step.

    2) There may also be a final stretch where we will walk through a sandy path.

    3) After finishing the route, we have chartered Buses to bring all participants back from Marina Barrage to Suntec City Mall.

So if you bring a stroller, please do try to make sure it is foldable, so that when you reach these 3 areas/get on the bus, you will be able to take care of the child and manage the stroller. It would be best if there is another adult with your party to help you.

Apologies that this year’s route is not as friendly for strollers as previous years, due to the change in location (as the National Stadium was due to be demolished). I do hope that you find the Marina Barrage as impressive as I do, to make up for the inconvenience!

Thanks for your support, and hope to see you at the Big Walk!

Hi, i just want to find out whether the maids are allowed to join us for the big walk and must they fill up the registration form? Secondly, can i do the registration on behalf my brother for his daughter whom is 16 years old only?

    Dear E,

    Thanks for your email.

    1) Yes, maids are definitely welcome to take part! And yes, like all other participants, they would need to fill in a registration form as well, and be entitled to collect the goodie bags and souvenirs.

    2) For your niece, as she is 16, she will need her parent / guardian to also sign the registration form.

Once that signature is signed, you can bring her registration form to the booth to sign up on her behalf.

The same goes for your other family members: You can get them to pre fill in the registration form, then bring all the completed forms to the booth and register on their behalf.

Do remember: If you are helping 5 people register, you will need to bring 5 completed registration forms + 5 TNP mastheads to register.

Spaces are running out fast, so do register as soon as possible!

Thanks for your support, and hope to see you at the Big Walk!

    hi there,
Yesterday after reading the newpaper, our family decided not to wait till next week to register for the Big Walk 2008, when the newpaper team is in Tampines(we live in Tampines ). So we head down to Marine Parade this morning to register. To our surprise, the registration is close! I was totalling SHOCK!! When i turn around to look at my kids, i could see the disappointment in their eyes. My hubby and i intended to
celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary with this walk. Our family had so much plans for this Day. it’s our first time participating. I would like to ask if there are anyway your team can help to make this possible.

  34. WJ Heng Says:

    Hi

Would appreciate if those who signed up for the event to actually go for it. I have come across and certainty do not wish to encounter more of the kaisu individuals who signed up only to get the free goodies bags. I would be irritated even more so should such individuals signed up in my place, an avid walker.

  35. Alif Says:

why only 20,000 ppl? i didnt have time to go and register last week and when I went yesterday, they said registration is closed.. i was soo looking forward to this.. such a disappointment..

  36. peggy soo Says:

Am disappointed that we didn’t manage to register as on friday,we didnt bring enough of the newpaper masthead.Sat we were not in town and came home late.By sunday, the registeration was closed!

We’re staying at North (punggol/sengkang)area,thus taking to AMK on wkend was tough with the queue.

We’re so sad that we missed this….

  37. Ng S C Says:

    Hi

I have signed up but in case i maybe going for bussiness trip on 2/11 can i transfer it to my mum instead??

  38. doreen Says:

Yea, when i reached suntec city at around 2pm+ on 12th sunday, all the slots are already taken up.
    Left rather disappointedly. =/
Was rather keen to take part in this as i’ve never tried it before.

Hope that there’ll be another big walk. =/
If only…. if only…..they open up another 5000 more slots.
I don’t mind participating without a goodie bag.

  39. Edmund Says:

    Hi Newpaper,

Thank you for the reply. I hope that the competitive component will be included in next year’s edition of the big walk.

    Regards
    Edmund

  40. Kate Says:

hi, abit early to ask about this..but may I know if there will be adequate bus to ferry 20,000 people back? Or is there a short cut (not another 5km 1.5 hours!) which we can walk back to Suntec instead of taking the bus in the event that the bus is too crowded?

  41. Andy Says:

    Hi Big Walk on water,

How does the buses that are stationed at Suntec City know who has registered and who has not? Where is the pickup point to send us to Marina Barrage?

    Regards,
    Andy

  42. Colin Says:

    Hi,

For those who did not managed to register, can they still join in to walk as well?

    Regards

  43. liza Says:

Hi, I am just suggesting, as every TNP Big Walk since the beginning the organiser would issue a t-shirt commemorating the event. I have collected and enjoyed collecting these it-shirts as they are a wonderful reminders of those good ol’days when we had been participating.

Hopefully TNP organiser would consider sponsor the t-shirts so that we couls remember this event in years to come and be poud of.!Besides, what is a TNP Big Walk event without a t-shirt..It wouldnt be the same without the t-shirts..it’s as if something is missing. Please consider for this year event to include the ever special and coveted T-shirt?

    Regards.

  44. Qin Says:

    Hi,
Thank you for organising such an exciting event! I’m sure all those late nights are worth it.

I’m just wondering, what if we misplaced our Big Walk stickers? But we still have the coupons as proof of registration, as there is a serial number on the coupons. Are we still allowed to join the Big Walk?

    Thank you!

  45. Jo Lim Says:

    Hi,

Through your reply to Hong Hee and Mr Goh, understand that there will not be Big Walk T-Shirt given to participants this year but what puzzle me is, why some organisation is given out Big Walk T-Shirt 2008 to those who signed up with them?

Can we know why is it so, is really weird when you mentioned NO Big Walk T-Shirt but yet some organisation is giving out to the public?

Appreciated the Big Walk on Water Team to comment on this. Tks.

  46. Gabriel Says:

    HI Newpaper,
Can my neighbour come in place of my mother-in-law, problem is that the details i submitted only my mother-in-law.
    Thanks
    Gabriel

  47. faith Says:

anyone has the route map up already?

    ======

    Dear Faith,

We have posted the route map on the website, at http://bigwalkonwater.wordpress.com/the-route.

Thanks for your support, and see you at the Big Walk!

    Best regards,
The Big Walk on Water organizing team

  48. Gabriel Says:

Where can I park my car?

    =======

    Dear Gabriel,

You can park at Suntec City Mall itself. Even though there are road closures, there will be certain carpark entrances that will still be open. For example, if you are taking ECP, you can exit Rocher, and enter the Suntec City Convention Centre carpark entrance.

    Best regards,
The Big Walk on Water organizing team

  49. Lee Says:

Need to start planning the things I am bringing, so am I right in saying that ponchos will NOT be provided in the event that it rains, and that the event will continue no matter how heavy is the rain/if there is lighting?

Also, the gathering point is at Fountain area, but is there anywhere which we must sign up or will the staff be in certain uniform so that we know who to listen to for instructions?

    thanks for replying!

p/s I saw someone on ebay selling the tickets for $40!
    ——-

    Dear Lee,

The Big Walk is an all-weather event, like in all previous years. We will be distributing free rain ponchos to all 20,000 participants at the start of the event, whether or not it rains.
(We did not distribute it earlier during registration, in case participants forgot to bring them).

At the Start Point at Suntec City Mall’s Fountain of Wealth, there is no further need to sign up. Your walking sticker and other sign-up items given out during registration will be your identity tag. There will be a stage and emcees, music, banners, barricades and cordons to mark out the gathering point for Big Walkers.

    See you this Sunday!

    Best regards,
The Big Walk on Water organizing team

  50. Chia Kwok Leong Says:

Could i check if i could join the Big Walk if i did not manage to register for the event?

  51. john quek Says:

    Dear Organising Team
its amazing what the Suntec goodies bag contained!! one towel, a booklet of discount coupons, and a fitmness club brochures. imaging 20,000 walkers maling a snaking queue for this!!

  52. Andy Says:

Had fun walking with my fellow Liverpool supporters from the Official Liverpool F.C. Fan Club (Singapore branch). Though it was hot, we didn’t really mind because we were walking for Liverpool, and We’re Liverpool!

  53. Nur Elisyah Says:

hi.. the Big Walk is really fun… although we had some hipcups on the / traffic jam on the way… but overall feeling was good.

and the children had enjoyed the water playground at the Marina Barrage.

however the whole event ended with some unhappiness cos when we return to Suntec at 2.15pm, the goodie bag booth was closed. I did not see anywhere in the coupon nor the website said the closing time for the suntec redemption booth.

so a goup of 10 pax of us were really disappointed. as the queue to goodie bag at the marina barrage was very very long, some had queue for the bus then drive their car back to the marina barrage so that the children can chillout at the water playground first. if we have know that the suntac booth closed at a certain time, we would not waste our trip back.

so , it is NOT true in today Newpaper that you said that 20000 walkers got their goodie bag at Suntac, cos i saw a few disappointed groups in Suntec too.

of course this is a free event , we really cannot complain much but it will be good if you can inform the public the booth closing time.

    thanks

enjoyed spending the sunday morning with the company of my extended family of first-time big walkers. however, im sorry to say that the experience didnt impress them…

first, we shuffled (instead of walked) at the start due to the narrow flag off point…

then, we encountered a massive jam at the bridge leading to pebble bay. in the human traffic, a big walk banner toppled over but luckily no one was hurt. wondered if the problem was anticipated as only 4 walkers could walk astride together… no photo opportunity there, one would meant holding back others waiting to get across.

nearing the off-road walk, heard someone remarked, “are they taking us to a construction site?” again, nothing much to see there.

but the barrage was a sight to behold. unfortunately we couldnt enjoy it longer than we would like. the goodie bag area took us out of the barrage and after the redemption chaos we just couldnt “bother” to explore.

lack of marshalls at the bus queue led others to jump queue. am especially sad to witness this.

upon return at suntec, was pleased that its goodie bag redemption process was smooth and efficient. the “carnival” area was a little odd though, wish we had more space to just relax and unwind.

i have yet to ask my family if they would like to join me next time but i have the rough idea. to be fair, the organisers did well in the logistical aspect… we had no problems finding parking space, the buses arrived promptly, the finish venue was grandly presented… however, comparing with past big walks, please bring back the usual “road” route with the competitive event, as well as the lucky draw…

  55. Tan Says:

    Hello

i had the same experience as Nur…went back to Suntec at about 2.30pm…checked with the info counter and found out that the goodie bags counter was already closed…
the tickets stated that the valid date is 2 Nov 08…no time was indicated…

we got to know the list of items in the marina barrage goodie bag from this website…sadly some of the items were missing when we got our goodie bag from the marina barrage…

in spite of this…we enjoyed the walk…

  56. Audrey Says:

Had a great walk with friend, but the heat really got unbearable past the tanjong rhu stretch, esp when we were on the trail near the Marina Golf Course with no trees watsoever….
The route’s pretty nice on the whole but was wondering… since there’s alrdy a NIGHT RACE… Can we have a NIGHT WALK the next time? The cityline shd be really beautiful from the Marina Barrage at night :)

  57. May Ong SK Says:

On the whole not too bad but could have been better. Should have anticipated the bottle-necks along the way – exit onto Nicoll Highway, bridge at Indoor Stadium, queue at the goodie bag at the Barrage. Felt like I spent a lot of time just queueing to get through…..

  58. Teri Ong Says:

A great and fun experience…for the kids lor. The route wasn’t well thought out though…bottlenecks, un-marked routes which led to many doing short-cuts. Road marshalls should have been deployed at such areas. But I didn’t see any le.

The queues for goody bags and buses…(shaking my head) wah, what can I say? Just one word..”luan”. Perhaps the organisers can take a cue from organisers of major runs (Standchart, Real Run), and see how mechanical, but successful, their queue systems are.

I feel sorry for those who reached Suntec past 1pm due to the long wait for the buses. My family was lucky to chance upon the free boat rides back to Merlion/Esplanade. We reached the Esplanade at about 11:45 am. Otherwise, I cannot imagine queuing and pacifying my already tired and cranky kids! And my own 2 legs also very ’sng’ liao. Heng ah!

But overall, it was a good Sunday workout/sweatout…plus a lesson in being patient…really patient! Thanks TNP!

  59. Chris Says:

Thanks to TNP for bringing back this event.
I hope that it can be an annual event from now on.
I would like to suggest that the walk use the previous format, ie a 10km route, with 2 categories, competitive and fun walker.

    Some observations.
The Marina Barrage side of things was well organised.
Not surprising, as TNP has “perfected” the system for goodie bag collection, water point, etc. Very smooth running like clockwork :)
The bus system of bringing walkers back to Suntec was also well planned.
The floating/flying foam star generator at Marina Barrage was an interesting and welcome feature.
The goodie bag collection system at Suntec, in contrast, was not as smooth.
I think the planning under-estimated the volume of walkers coming back from Marina Barrage, which resulted in a long queue.
A bigger location and more helpers, would have helped.
It would have been great if Suntec used the TNP (experience &) system at Marina Barrage.

    All in, a great time.

  60. Edmund Says:

I enjoyed the walk tremendously.. Thank you newpaper ;) like the others, i hope that the newpaper big walk will be an annual event from now on.
